Design Duo are Relative to Design
JACKSONVILLE,
FL Decorating shows, such as HGTV's Decorating Cents and
Designed to Sell, opened affordable design doors for both homeowners
wishing to make a design change with things they already own and
those hoping to sell a home for top dollar.
Assisting homeowners in either category
are sibling designers Jan Barker Lefevre of Statesville, NC/Apple
Valley, OH and Tod Barker of Ann Arbor, MI/Metter, GA. Each earned
certification as an Interior Redesign Industry Specialist (IRIS)
from Jacksonville's celebrity designer and co-author of IRIS
in the House, Barbara Bain.
Neither sibling is a newcomer to
the design industry. Lefevre attended Kendall School of Design
in Michigan where she first developed her love of rich color.
After focusing her creativity on decorative furniture painting
in Texas and Ohio, she returned to Michigan and opened Details
by Design, an interior decorating studio. As Lefevre raised a
family and eventually headed south again, her design path wound
through interiors and pillow design in Ohio into journalism, marketing,
graphic design and Web site production in North Carolina. She
has owned and operated Design Detail Web Production in Statesville
since 2002.
Meanwhile, Barker earned a degree in Theatre
Design from Eastern Michigan University. After working for Macy's
in both New York and San Francisco as a visual merchandiser, he
returned to Michigan where he went on to work as a finish carpenter,
earned his builders license and opened The Painted Touch,
specializing in faux finishes. He also served as visual merchandiser
for the exclusive Selo-Shevel Gallery in Ann Arbor. A move to
Savannah, Ga. led Barker to join the faculty at the Savannah College
of Art and Design and eventually to open HomeDetails, a home improvement
and design company.
While the design duo individually
offer interior redesign, real estate staging and decorating services
in their respective states, they are available as a team for larger
assignments. Links to details of their individual services can
